The first mention of this town dates back to the 13^th century. Its dominant feature is the Renaissance hunting chateau associated with the legend of the Hana King Jecminek (King Barley) and famous for its collection of weapons and its exhibition of the work Emil Filla, the painter who was born here. In odd-numbered years, one of the last Sundays in May is always reserved for a festival of Hana singing and dancing in the chateau courtyard.
The Renaissance chateau, Chropyne was built in the 16^th century. In the 17^th century it was completely rebuilt into what we can see today. Since the 17^th century it's been the property of the Olomouc bishopry.
It contains important collections of weapons and paintings, the latter representing the work of the world renowned painter, Emil Filla.
