The municipality Bernolakovo is located in the Western part of Sub-Danubian lowlands on the mead of Small Danube and
Eierna Voda in above sea level of aproximately 150 m. The village lies 16 km northeast from centre of Slovak capital
Bratislava and has 4600 citizens.
The first written data is linked with 1209 year, under the name Ceky. The village got later the name Cheklez, in
the year 1918 Ceklis. The name was last changed in 1948, after Anton Bernolak, who had lived ther from 1778-1791 and
had written the first Slovak grammar basics.
The castle in Bernolakovo was built in Bernolakovo in 13th century and destroyed on the end of
17th century.
Joseph Esterhazy built the brilliant baroque castle in the period between 1714 - 1722 in Bernolakovo. The castle
design was elaborated by Court Viennese designer Johan Bernard Fischer from Erlach, the author of summer royal
castle in Vienna.
The castle with three towers had been built as a first typical baroque residence in Western Slovakia, which consisted of
the castle, park and many sculptural decorations.
Inspite of the damages and absence of maintenance in last decades the original splendity and representativeness is
preserved on the facades. Internal luxury had opposite pole in sculptural and architectural area and in park decoration.
Many garden sculptures, arbours, porches and fountains decorated the park.
In 1766 there was built the roccocco pavillion in the park on the ocasion of the visit of the Emperor's Court from
Vienna, which was knocked down only in 1945.
In 1991 the badly damaged castle was given to Bernolakovo municipality.
Since 1993, the historic area with the castle has been leased to the new investor for a period of 99 years for
realisation of the Information and Social Center for the capital of Slovakia - Bratislava. The baroque park was
reconstructed during 1993-1996 and a 9 holes golfcourse was built in.
Private club, course open for visitors. The course was completed in 1995 within an area of baroque castle and
park from 1722. 9 holes, par 62, SSS 60 men, 62 ladies, length 3382m (men), pitching range, chipping and putting
green, restaurant with summer terrace, dressing rooms, 2 tennis courts Constructions of Information and Social
Centre with accommodation, congress centre, 18 holes master course, club house, tennis area, showbusiness centre
in development.
