The Jindricuv Hradec district represents a significant tourist region in the South Bohemia. The eastern part of the district is formed by the Bohemian - Moravian Highlands with their top of 835 m above sea level in Javorice.
The western part is formed by the Trebon basin characterized by lowlands any many lakes and ponds. These lakes and ponds feature both the Bohemian - Moravian Highlands and the Trebon basin. They have been formed here since the 14
th century. The ponds and lakes surface of the Jindrichuv Hradec district is the largest one in the republic. Forests, largely needle - leaved trees, meadows - both regulated and nature - and peatbogs and moors especially in the surroundings of the town of Trebon feature this landscape. There are many cultural and historical monuments in the district, the most attractive of which are the castles situated in Jindrichuv Hradec, Trebon, Dacice, Cervena Lhota, Landstejn, museums and galleries in Jindrichuv Hradec, Dacice and Slavonice.
Besides a large number of decorated Renaissance citizen houses which have been preserved in the historical town reserves of Jindrichuv Hradec, Trebon and Slavonice
many nice folk buildings, especially estates surrounded by walls, have been preserved till the present times. Making trips by train running on a narrow-gauge railway from Jindrichuv Hradec to Nova Bystrice or to Obratan represents a special tourists attraction. The narrow-gauge railway goes through a woody, wild and scarcely inhabited landscape called "Bohemian Canada".
There are many attractions prepared for
tourist route. The whole landscape of this region is multiform and characterized by a picturesque and a relatively intact nature and a sound environment. Visitor to this affable and hospitable region will be provided with quality services in boarding, accommodation, with a varied offer of sporting activities in large number of sports facilities or with recreation and relaxation possibilities at some of recreation lake.
Jindrichuv Hradec is a district town with
numerous architectural monuments from Gothic and Renaissance period. The lake named "Vajgar" situated in the middle of the town gives the town its lovely picturesqueness. The town has been proclaimed a historical town reserve in 1961. There are the world-renowned
workshops of Mrs. Teinitzerova's Tapestry studios where tapestries are being manufactured. They can be bought in the exhibit and sales gallery next to these studios. The local castle and the chateau rank among the most beautiful noble residences in Bohemia. The rooms of the castle and of the chateau have been restored. Some 10 000 objects of art and the same number of books are deposited in the interiors of the castle. The museum was founded in 1882. Mr. Kryza's Bethlehem - the largest folk mechanical Bethlehem scene in the world - plastics collection, a unique collection of painted rifle targets and arm and
the hall of Mrs. Ema Destinova, the Czech world-famous opera singer, represent the most interesting exposition of the museum. The surroundings of the town are rich in forests and lakes and town itself is a starting point of many tourist routes marked with coloured directional signs.
A number of culture events are held in the town every year, e.g. Concertino Praga, a
folk music festival called "Folkloric Rose", South Bohemian Music Festival, classic music concerts held in the castle rotunda. Many accommodation and boarding are available here.
Dacice is a town situated on the "Moravska Dyje" river in the Dacicka Hollow. A large
Renaissance chateau, rebuilt in the Empire style, attracts tourists and visitors by its interiors and by a park which surrounds the chateau and in which precious trees and plants are grown. The local museum and a picture gallery with its historical exposition and exhibitions offer a rich cultural expereince.
